Code 39 character rules

BarcodeBatch accepts the Code 39 characters supported by the current generator: uppercase letters, digits, spaces and - . $ / + %. Lowercase input is not silently converted to uppercase.

Choose Code 39 only when your workflow expects it

Different scanners, applications and labeling standards expect different symbologies. Use Code 39 when the receiving workflow requires or supports it; use Code 128 when you need a more flexible general-purpose option.

Download for digital or print layouts

PNG is convenient for standard image workflows. SVG is scalable and better suited when the barcode will be resized in a design or print layout. Test the final result at the actual size and output quality you plan to use.

Common questions

Does BarcodeBatch convert lowercase letters to uppercase?
No. The generator does not silently change the case of your value.
Should I use Code 39 or Code 128?
Use the symbology required by the receiving system. Code 128 is generally more flexible, while Code 39 uses a smaller supported character set.
