Turn a shopfront scan into a useful WhatsApp enquiry

Use a WhatsApp QR code when a customer needs to start a conversation with a known business number. A repair shop might invite visitors to ask about opening hours; a service desk might prepare a short support enquiry. The generated link opens the chat destination and can place a draft in the composer. It does not send a message or create a customer-service system.

Enter an international number without formatting

Use country code followed by the national number in international format, containing digits only. For a Turkish mobile-number pattern, start with 90 and omit the domestic trunk zero; do not enter a plus sign, brackets or spaces into this field. The displayed example is a format illustration, not a contact to use. Check the intended number independently and confirm it belongs to the WhatsApp account that should receive enquiries.

Write a draft that helps the recipient respond

A useful prepared message gives context without pretending to know the customer. A window sign for a bicycle workshop could suggest: Hello, I would like to ask about a repair appointment. Leave personal details, order numbers and payment information for the customer to add after opening the chat. Keep the draft readable and specific to that sign. The visitor remains free to edit the wording or close the conversation.

Choose placement and a clear invitation

Put the image on a shop window, appointment card or business card beside a phrase explaining who will answer. Test the actual printed version through window glass and from a comfortable standing position. If the business has separate sales and support teams, make two clearly labelled destinations rather than directing every scan to an unexplained number. A visible alternate contact method helps people who cannot or prefer not to use WhatsApp.

Inspect the opened chat, not only the picture

The meaningful check is that the expected account opens and the prepared text survives punctuation and non-English characters. Try the link on a phone with WhatsApp and review its behavior on a desktop browser. Service availability and account state are controlled by WhatsApp. If the receiving number changes, regenerate the static code and replace old printed cards; editing your business profile does not rewrite those links.

Common questions

Will a scan send the prepared message?
No. Opening the chat can populate a draft, but the visitor must choose to send it. Do not describe the code as automatic messaging or promise that a scan proves someone has contacted you.
Does the recipient need a working WhatsApp account?
Yes. A correctly formatted number is only part of the setup. Test that the intended account can actually receive messages before distributing the code across packaging, cards or signage.
Why does my domestic phone number fail?
A local number can be ambiguous outside its country. Enter the full international digits and remove formatting characters; check the national trunk-prefix rule for that country instead of guessing or repeatedly adding zeros.
Can I change the draft on printed cards?
The text is encoded in the link, so an existing print keeps its original draft. Generate another image after changing the number or message, and distinguish the new artwork when replacing older copies.
